Bufo Cognatus

This toad was ready for a portrait sitting. He posed for several minutes as I took photos of him on my back patio. I was glad he had visited!

Larus occidentalis

It was the perfect morning at Tampa Bay. The sun was shining right into the open throat of this very vocal (or perhaps sleepy!) sea gull. Talking or yawning? I'll let you decide....

Anhinga Sunning by the Lake

Anhinga anhinga

Anhingas do not have oil in their wings in order to repel water. They spread their wings to dry them in the sun. This one "posed" for a long time as I stood and watched. They can have a wingspan of 47 inches!

Lizard!

Anolis sagrei sagrei (anole)

This is one of the many anoles that live in our yard. Our lizards like to hide on our porches under cushions, light fixtures or flower pots. Sometimes they peek out at you!

Roses Near Our Doorway

Rosaceae

We have a beautiful red rose bush near our front door. It makes me happy every time I see a new bud about to bloom. Did you know that roses originated in Central Asia?

Flowers by the Canal

These flowers were especially beautiful growing along the canal.
The sun is such a difficult part of nature to photograph. The hues in this picture are especially stunning .

Love Bugs Plecia nearctica

Love Bugs. They travel in pairs and cover moving vehicles every year. Being quite difficult to wash off of a car once they have collided with it, they are a lot of trouble! They are totally harmless and do not bite.

A Bunch to Munch

Grasshoppers have already had quite a meal with this gorgeous lilly. (Liliaceae)

Anolis sagrei sagrei

Brown Anoles
The tiny lizards that roam our yard and scamper as they greet me when I come home are some of my favorite creatures to photograph. This one was about 3 inches long, including the tail!

Lepidoptera

This moth almost looks like it has delicate feathers covering its body. I was glad he visited!

Sunset on Lake Eustis

Viewing the setting sun on the water is one of my favorite times. The ripples and waves take on a whole new personality.

Grasshopper in My Hand

Orthoptera

These nymphs appear in an "army" every year at the same time. They seem to be everywhere.

Sand Hill Crane

Grus canadensis

We have a delightful pair of these sand cranes that frequent our back yard. They have the most wonderful voice! Large flocks of these cranes visit Florida every winter.

Undersea beauty

God blesses us with spectacular beauty!

Have you any food?

Procyon lotor (Raccoon)

These raccoons were so kind looking. They lived in the area around a natural spring. No, we didn't feed them....

Acalypha wilkesiana (Copper Plants)

Acalyph

Copper plants are some of the most beautiful that I've seen. They grow to at least 4 feet in my yard.

The Captivating Shore

The mix of color on this bird adds a sense of calmness to his countenance.
The rainbow appeared shortly after we arrived at the beach. It was a beautiful display of God's creation.

Feeding on the Beach

You can never tell what might wash up on the beach.

Grandma, What Big Eyes You Have!

My husband first spotted this little guy hiding. It was rainy that day, and he had taken refuge near the plants below a walkway. Look at those eyes!!

It may be yours, but not for long!

I didn't even realize until later that the two birds I had photographed were perhaps engaged in a race for dinner. I was delighted to have captured this bit of challenge for the sea gull.

Unexpected Color!

The flowers growing near the shore are beautiful marvels shouting their colors from their sandy showcase!

Shoreline Majesty

Such tiny feet to splash in the water!

The Beauty of the Beach

The beach has its own special attraction to me. Every aspect of life around the water seems to be waiting on the photographer to find it and preserve the moment through photography.

The sea gull here appears to be deep in thought. Even the wind ruffling his feathers on that rainy day didn't seem to affect his reflective posture.
